Dr Rui Niu

Dr Niu is an Australian-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with special interest and expertise in conditions of the Elbow and Shoulder; including arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery, joint arthroplasty, treatment of a spectrum of sports injuries and degenerative conditions.

In 2007, he graduated from Medicine at the University of New South Wales with First Class Honours. He went on to undertake his Advanced Orthopaedics Surgery training in Sydney at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. In 2016, Dr Niu received his Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association. 

Dr Niu’s sub-specialty was solidified in his Fellowship at Sydney Shoulder Research Institute, working with Dr Benjamin Cass, Dr Allan Young and Dr Jeffery Hughes. He went on

to gain international experience, in the United States and France; learning from world-renowned surgeons on advanced techniques in Elbow and Shoulder surgery.

Dr Niu is passionate about education as well as training and research. He has been a Lecturer at UNSW and is a Faculty with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST).

After relocating to the Southern Highlands from Sydney, with his young family, Dr Niu enjoys helping his wife further their goals in permaculture and sustainable living. Each year Dr Niu plays in the annual GP-Specialist Cricket Match and welcomes you to the Bradman Oval to be part of the community, he now calls home.
